The bandages come off! (3 Week Post Op)

Today we removed Lauren's bandages and protective cup covering the ear. From here on out, she doesn't need the protection. She will still need to keep the area moist as the skin graft continues to heal. The area where the graft was taken is also healing well and her hair is already growing back. We sent some pictures back to Dr. Lewin for her to review. I have included some of those pictures here as well. It really looks amazing and it will continue to get better every day.

I just ran across your blog after a google search of microtia slc. My 13 year old daughter has Goldenhar Syndrome and we live in SLC. The manifestations are similar to Lauren's. Dr. Reinisch did a medpor implant surgery in 2005. It looks great but the implant broke through the skin in the ear canal, became infected, and it had to be redone in March 2009. Last week (June) it broke through again. I'm afraid we are going to have to give up on the Medpor approach. I'm looking for a SLC surgeon to do a ribgraft replacement of the Medpor implant. Could you please contact me at larry.dunn@noaa.gov

thanks...larry
